Lanes School of Driving accepted its first student way back in 1914; today, with more than a century of trading history behind us, we serve as one of the UK’s longest operating driving schools.
We appreciate that each of our learners are unique – for which our lessons and teaching methods are tailored accordingly and always delivered on a one-to-one basis. We also know that some of our students will want to pass quickly (for which we offer an intensive driving course), whilst others prefer to spread their learning over a longer period – as their budget and time constraints allow. You can book your lessons at the same time each week, or book your lessons one by one, allowing you to change the times and days as your schedule permits.
We offer theory lessons either as part of your practical lessons, or as an entirely separate course, and can arrange to both pick you up and drop you off following your lesson. Alongside our core driving lessons, we also offer a selection of courses following a pass, these include: Advanced Driving, Pass Plus, Motorway Driving, and Parking Skills.
Our driving school has a large selection of high quality cars, including both BMW Series 1 and Minis.
We have more than 40 driving instructors, each of whom are experienced with learners aged from 17 to 70+. They are well-versed at reassuring their pupils and helping them overcome nerves.
Our instructors are DSA registered and fully qualified Approved Driving Instructors. You’ll benefit from seeing the same instructor week in, week out, with a professional who comes to understand your current capabilities and future challenges.
Learning to drive can seem an intimidating prospect, and some female learners are hesitant about learning with a male instructor. Should you wish to have a female instructor, we can easily accommodate you. Lanes female instructors are friendly, informal and skilled at putting students at ease.
Whilst some say that manual cars provide for more controlled driving, we do find that some pupils request to learn in an automatic car. Typically, learners tend to progress more quickly when learning in an automatic; this isn’t so surprising, given that the operation of automatics is simpler and that such cars don’t stall. We offer a range of automatic cars and our instructors have vast experience tutoring those who choose this option.
